Letter to the editor: Easter holy day is pro-life

The Repository

As Christians celebrated the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus this Easter, I am reminded just how pro-life the Easter holy day really is.

Recently, I made a life changing pilgrimage to the Holy land. I saw the star of Bethlehem, I walked the Via Dolorosa where Jesus walked his way to Mount Calvary and where he was crucified, and most importantly, I had the great honor of attending Mass at the spot where Jesus rose from the dead. It is a trip that I’m never going to forget.

As I was listening to the Passion reading on Good Friday at my parish of St. James Catholic Church in Waynesburg, I heard the story of those who called for Jesus' crucifixion, and I was thinking to myself how even today people call for the crucifixion of the unborn babies in the womb and just how good people and religious people kept silent about Jesus' crucifixion. Even in our own day, good people and even religious people keep silent about those being sentenced to death in the womb. Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.

How many times do we in our own lives go along with the crucifixion of others, especially those of the unborn? How do we do this? By supporting politicians who support abortion and by voting for them. We support it by encouraging others to get an abortion, we support it by supporting organizations like Planned Parenthood.

However, the good news is Jesus has conquered death. No matter what happens, no matter what is put into law or voted on, life is victorious. Jesus has destroyed the power of the culture of death. He is truly risen. Amen.
