I have owned this device for under 3 months, and in this time, I have found it to be a great device. Despite pioneer's negative review, I decided to pick up this device after trying one out for myself. It has been a great step up from my old device.
Having experienced this device, the iphone 11, samsung Galaxy s9+, s10+, and s10e I can say that the choice was fairly clear. The only temptation to move to a galaxy device was from the s10e. Other than that, the LG g8x was the winner without a doubt.
The ui: dont be fooled by naysayers who talk bad about the ui. It isn't nearly as bad as people want you to believe. I have used other recent devices and found that LG seems to be one of the top companies who are attempting to make the experience feel similar to stick, with a bit of LG flavor. After this last update they have added a pinch of Samsung to dress it up. The naysayers have trashed this too, despite heaping praise on samsung for the exact same layout in areas. I find the ui to be intuitive and simple to navigate. I do wish the native app drawer was able to sort itself better. I have experienced no hiccups or mistakes in this area.
Keyboard: I appreciate all of the functionality of the keyboard, but find myself wanting some GIF support like gboard. I also felt like the autocorrect could use some work.
Hardware: the device feels premium in the hand. It is ridiculously polished to the point that it can and will slide off of flat surfaces. Feels nice, but scares me. I felt that the buttons could use some texture or maybe a different material, as they are slick.
Audio: no complaints here. Amazing audio.
Touchscreen: responsive and crisp, includes an option to make it more sensitive if you use a screen protector.
Speakers: They are a bit quieter than I was hoping, but fairly clear and nice. It's perfectly fine for listening in your own home/apartment/room.
Battery: Astounding battery life. Good with dual screen, amazing without it. Light to moderate use (with dual screen) will last all day. Great device that sips at the battery like it's drinking a high quality tea.
Performance: Navigation is smooth and rewarding. The animations are fluid and responsive.
Camera: oversharpens as all LG camera software does. Still reasonable photos that look good and those manual controls are amazing.
Overall I give this device a 10. The average of the individual scores is less, but as a whole package, this device easily scores a 10. Minimal bloat, an abundance of options, and solid performance.
Note: some carriers sell this device separately from the dual screen or offer it as a rebate offer. Its worth picking up. Save your receipt and box if you have to pick it up through a deal like Sprint had it set up.
Great phone. Inscreen thumb print to a min to get used to. Its fast good storage and has no problem multitasking at all. I recommend 100%. Getting my dual screen attachment Thursday!!! Plays games really well too!
