Ann Lamiell Landy passed away on October 9, 2022, in Cary, North Carolina, at the age of 80. She was surrounded by her children.

Ann was born on April 14, 1942, in Barberton, Ohio, to the late Rita Jacobs Lamiell and Thomas Lamiell. She was the eldest of seven sisters and one brother and spent most of her childhood in Canton, Ohio, where she developed a love for education. After earning her undergraduate degree in Childhood Education from Mary Manse College, Ann earned a Master's degree in Educational Psychology at Bowling Green State University, where she met and fell in love with Francis (Frank) Landy. They married in August of 1966, and their family grew to include two daughters, Erin and Elizabeth. They later moved from Ohio to State College, Pennsylvania, where Frank accepted a teaching position at Penn State University.

Despite her husband's academic accolades, Ann refused to fade into the background and carved her own path, ultimately earning her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at Penn State while simultaneously raising her two daughters.

After nearly 30 years of establishing a life in Pennsylvania, Ann found herself starting over in Northern Virginia with a new job and a new sense of self. Although it was challenging, she discovered strength, independence, and refreshed relationships. She also provided her daughters with a model of resilience while never missing an opportunity to celebrate their successes.

Ann adored her grandchildren, who cherished her in return. Her greatest joy was to sit at the table, on the sideline or in the audience with her family. Ann’s generosity knew no bounds, and she would offer anyone in need the shirt off her back (no doubt the cleanest, most crisp white shirt imaginable). She never wanted anyone to feel ashamed of their mistakes and was always there to lend a listening ear, offer financial assistance, a kind note, or advocacy. If she could help alleviate the burden that accompanied life’s missteps, she would.

Ann was fiercely loyal, intellectually curious, and had a quick, sharp mind. She could add vibrato to the most gangster of rap tunes, dance to any beat, and weigh in on every political debate. But if she told a joke it was usually by accident. Ann beautified every space she inhabited through her keen sense of style, timeless grace and penchant for design; if she hired interior decorators, it was mainly to check their work. She refused to take center stage if it pulled the spotlight away from anyone else and chose and wrapped gifts with the type of consideration only the truest of friends can muster. Her kindness and capacity for love and support will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Rita and Thomas Lamiell; brother-in-law Doug Pedrotty; and brother-in-law Jeffery Reinhard. She is survived by her children: Erin, her husband Scott, and her son Charlie; Elizabeth (Betsy), her husband George, and their children, Emily, William, and Jackson. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Janet Orth; Jim and Leslie Lamiell; Christine Lamiell Reinhard; Rosemary and John Russell; Patricia Lamiell and Andy Weltchek; Theresa and Hugh Burnstadt; Kathleen Lamiell and Arte Kuyper; as well as 19 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at the Canton Garden Center in Canton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wake Med Foundation..
